Services Available: AAA Northeast’s traffic safety educators present – in-person or virtually – on a wide variety of topics related to safe teen driving, including (but not limited to) aggressive driving/road rage, distracted driving, impaired driving, and handling a traffic stop, as well as pedestrian and bicycle safety. 10 Deadly Teen Driver Mistakes – This interactive presentation provides tips to parents and teens to help avoid the most common mistakes of new teen drivers and helps them improve their judgment, knowledge, behavior and skills while operating a motor vehicle.

Distracted Driving – Motorists who read or send a text while driving take their eyes off the road for up to five seconds. At 55mph, that’s like driving the entire length of a football field with your eyes shut. Texting – along with other activities like phone calls, eating/drinking, setting the GPS or interacting with the entertainment system – takes your hands off the wheel (manual distraction), your eyes off the road (visual distraction) and your mind off the task of driving (cognitive distraction). This program is designed to help drivers understand the risks of distractions and get tips to avoid become a distracted driver.

Handling Driving Emergencies – Knowing how to handle driving emergencies is something every driver should know. This program advises drivers what to do if they break down, how to stay safe on the road, and important things to keep in your car in case of an emergency.

Shifting Gears: The Blunt Truth About Marijuana and Driving – This program is designed to educate high school students in driver education and health classes on the risks of driving while impaired by cannabis and intends to correct misconceptions about marijuana’s potential risks to teenagers.
